You know how in natural language we tend to create shortened phrases that describe recurring situations that take a lot of words to describe? I think those solve a lot of problems. I also think we don’t do it enough.

One of my favorites is “left on read”. It describes a complicated scenario in a short hand that we’ve all agreed upon. I think we need more.

I think we need one for “I left you on read because I got the notification for your message during a situation where I could not respond. I did read it, and that gave it ‘read’ status in the software, now I don’t have any reminder to follow up on it. I would’ve possibly put a reminder in my reminder software, but adding a reminder is much harder to do compared to reading a message.”

Mostly to be used in an apology, maybe:

• Read while distracted
• Accidentally read
